sketchy wonder woman!

Some Wonder Women! (woman's? wimmins?). I'm trying to do more personal art/get more pencil mileage in, and so far I'm kind of liking late-night art sessions! :)

Also, as a reward for myself for powering through three crazy weeks I went to Swain's and gorged on art supplies. I've been hearing so many good things about Chartpak markers that I ended up buying a couple sets, and I already love 'em! They're notoriously stinky, though...unfortunately no one told me about the slight time-delay before the odor really hits you....

Beam me up!

"Safety in Numbers"

Hey guys! I made a piece for the "Beam Me Up: Star Trek Art Show", opening tomorrow 7PM @ Qpop in Little Tokyo. Truthfully I haven't watched much of the show, but I know that it's campy and awesome and that a red shirt usually means bad news for its wearer. So I just did a little something simple :) Some process shots below!

Also, I tried to use actual redshirts, so here's a little reference chart:

you can read about how they died here!

RIP, brave bearers of the crimson uniform.

Happy Halloween! + doodles

Happy Halloween!! :)
I'm rather pleased with my costume this year so I'll try and remember to share it later, but for now here are some halloween-y drawings:

Also, I've been doing a lot more random doodles in my sketchbook and documenting them with instagram. Here's a pretty good sampling:

Sorry if you've seen these already (either through tumblr or instagram). Once in a while I'll cross-post some of these to tumblr or facebook, but I probably won't do a large art dump like this here too often.

If you'd like to see all my random doodles and an occasional snapshot of my real life, you can follow me on instagram:: cisforfrenchfry

The Cat in the Library

Just throwing up some gallery art! This is my piece for the Curiosities show at Nucleus.

The exhibit/workshop/signing is centered around Mike's and Vicky's recent project "Curiosities: An Illustrated History of Ancestral Oddity" (which was funded through Kickstarter, yay!). From the Nucleus site: Talented couple Mike Yamada and Victoria Ying have been collaborating on animation-inspired illustrations for some time. Most recently, the duo set out on a Kickstarter.com book project that successfully funded more than ten times their original goal. "Curiosities: An Illustrated History of Ancestral Oddity" is the tale of a brother and sister who inherit an old, mysterious mansion and all of the odd relics that are housed inside within.

I'm really excited about the show because the subject matter is right up my alley, and if you're free you should definitely stop by and say hi! :)
The opening will be on Oct. 27, 7-11 PM

Here's the rough, too...as usual:

Qpop Tokusatsu Show + some wee foxes

This is my piece for the Qpop Tokusatsu show...a cuter take on Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah. According to the event page, "Tokusatsu (特撮?) is a Japanese term that applies to any live-action film or television drama that usually features superheroes and/or monsters and makes considerable use of special effects (tokusatsu literally translates as "special filming" in Japanese).

More info about the event here!: https://www.facebook.com/events/454837717870454/

The show opening is on Saturday, Sept 15 @ 7 PM. A lot of great artists will be participating, and it should be an amazing show. Hope to see you there! Here are some process pics:

this is how it usually starts, with crappy thumbs in PS

Sketch. After I'm done sketching in PS I'll print it out to do a graphite transfer

i usually use extra watercolor paper scraps as my palettes

And here are some sketchy foxes from a while back :)

a couple of paintings!

I did a couple of pieces for the Pencil Mileage Club's student/alumni gallery. The show opens tomorrow night at CSU Fullerton, everyone is welcome! :)

I always thought some of the collective names for animal groups were rather odd and cute, so I decided to take them literally. I'm sure this has been done before, but it was fun for little paintings.

both are watercolor...i need to practice more :(

in frames

sketch and color exploration

See you there! (traffic permitting...D:)
