The Eye Camera

Do you ever have those times when you look up or around you and you see something like this?:

"Whooaaa..."
"I gotta get a picture of this"
"What the hell?!"
"This picture is a total turd! The colors are all off!"
dangit.

It always happens! I want to capture an amazing sight but pictures never do it justice. So I thought...
wouldn't it be nice...
...if our eyes were cameras...?
What we see with our eyes would be exactly what we get in the pictures....the vibrancy of the colors, the spectacular lighting, the subtle shadows...
When you see something that just needs to be captured --
all you would have to do to take a picture is blink and

And it doesn't mean you have to sacrifice other typical camera functions, such as:

Now, the one thing I haven't quite figured out was how to actually get physical copies of these photos. But I imagine it might go something like this:

Friday

The office is totally empty because everyone is at CTNx...or just taking the day off. I have endless work today, but I'll be there quietly wandering around on Saturday! Who else is going? The best part of CTNx is meeting fellow artists, so if you'll be around say hi! :)

EDIT: My awesome office-mate Kenji came in. I'm not so lonely anymore! He also improved my drawing immensely:

EDIT: some other non-CTN people apparently want in on the fun hahaha. Thanks, Ryan!

EDIT: And it keeps going... (thanks, Arielle :D)

....And Nate enters the fray! ...with something absolutely terrifying...

...Shawn took it to a similarly disturbing place...

...and Kenji decided to stop the madness once and for all!

Happy Halloween! + doodles

Happy Halloween!! :)
I'm rather pleased with my costume this year so I'll try and remember to share it later, but for now here are some halloween-y drawings:

Also, I've been doing a lot more random doodles in my sketchbook and documenting them with instagram. Here's a pretty good sampling:

Sorry if you've seen these already (either through tumblr or instagram). Once in a while I'll cross-post some of these to tumblr or facebook, but I probably won't do a large art dump like this here too often.

If you'd like to see all my random doodles and an occasional snapshot of my real life, you can follow me on instagram:: cisforfrenchfry

The Cat in the Library

Just throwing up some gallery art! This is my piece for the Curiosities show at Nucleus.

The exhibit/workshop/signing is centered around Mike's and Vicky's recent project "Curiosities: An Illustrated History of Ancestral Oddity" (which was funded through Kickstarter, yay!). From the Nucleus site: Talented couple Mike Yamada and Victoria Ying have been collaborating on animation-inspired illustrations for some time. Most recently, the duo set out on a Kickstarter.com book project that successfully funded more than ten times their original goal. "Curiosities: An Illustrated History of Ancestral Oddity" is the tale of a brother and sister who inherit an old, mysterious mansion and all of the odd relics that are housed inside within.

I'm really excited about the show because the subject matter is right up my alley, and if you're free you should definitely stop by and say hi! :)
The opening will be on Oct. 27, 7-11 PM

Here's the rough, too...as usual:

A quick morning observation

Thank you, sir. Thank you and your immaculately groomed, milky mustache. The sunlight bounced off of it and quite literally brightened my morning.
